Don’t throw those away!

Don’t throw away those green onion ends. Want to do the easiest thing ever? Pop them in water and watch them grow. We love green onions in this house! If I can find an excuse to throw them in to any meal, I will take it. I’ve been on a growing spree since we moved in. I got an awesome Aloe Vera from one of the big box stores. Since I’ve been inspired to grow or rather re-grow useful plants. So far I just have the Aloe, Green Onions and Peppermint. (More coming on the Peppermint)

I love the idea of only having to buy a herb or plant once, but not having to commit too much space to grow it on my own. I have plans to try re-growing celery, cilantro and romaine lettuce as well. I’m trying to find a happy balance between plants and family. I have a lot on my plate on a daily basis, so I need easy and low impact. There has to be a way to cut down on such astronomical food prices. I’m determined to find the way.20140829_120936

We were all surprised by how quickly they re-grew! After only one night in water they were already sprouting. You can clearly see the cat is beside himself over their rapid growth.20140901_223716

Day 4 reveals great progress. I think I will give them a few more days until I cut them and then start the process all over again. Now the biggest question is: “What’s for dinner?”
